This week the Writing Retreat is represented at the Mediterranean Editors & Translators Meeting (METM) in Girona, Spain.

The spark for the Helsinki retreats originated at METM 2017 in Brescia, Italy, where Professor Rowena Murray was a keynote speaker presenting the structured retreats she has been leading in the UK for the past 15 years.

In the audience was Helsinki-based editor and events producer Jess Kelley, who was inspired! During the METM17 closing dinner, Rowena and Jess put their heads together to plan the first Helsinki Writing Retreat, which was held in August 2018.

The positive response to the first retreat called for an encore!

Future Helsinki writing retreats will be held 4 times a year; the next retreat is 21–23 November. Registrations are currently open. Smaller satellite events will also be held, including a free 1-day mini retreat on 25 October.

These future events will be led by Jess Kelley AE, an accredited editor and an active member of multiple organisations for language professionals in Europe and Australia. With 15 years of working with a variety of authors and texts, writer education has always been an important part of Jess’ service —  she now combines her editing and writing background with a coaching certification (USA), and a facilitator’s training course with Rowena Murray (UK).

The Writing Retreat is produced by JC Events in partnership with Nordic Editors & Translators (NEaT). NEaT is a sister association of MET.
